Our Noses

Thank You, Lord, for giving us the desire to have a sweet, wholesome fragrance in our lives. Empower us to have the fragrance of Christ within, an aroma to both the saved and unsaved around us. To those who are not saved we seem a fearful smell of death and doom, while to those who know Christ, we are a life-giving perfume (see II Corinthians 2:15).

I don’t always think of smell in relation to spiritual matters, but the more I think about it, smell has played a great deal in my spiritual growth. I’m reminded of the everlasting moments each time I smell the aroma of Africa. There are times here in America when a breeze of Africa reaches my nose and my mind takes me to another place, a place of memories of the people of Africa and the experiences, growth, God has given me.

Smell is one thing that you can’t necessarily bottle up and take home with you such as photos, sounds, touch that reach all of our other senses. So, each time I land in Africa, I take a deep breath and taking in the aroma. It’s refreshing to me and I’m thankful for this sweet fragrance.
